So, You Ate Too Much… Now What?

You promised yourself that you’d stay on-track during the Labor Day weekend, but here you are remorseful after a day of feasting, bloating, carb comas, and empty calories. According to Prevention Magazine, the average person will take in 3,500 calories on Labor Day alone! This happens to the best of us.

The more immediate question we usually ask ourselves is “What Have I Done?” or “Why Did I Do That?”. The answer to these questions is always guilt-filled and full or negative thoughts and emotions. A more useful question is one that is solution-oriented and would move you in the right direction: “What Can I Do Now?”

Here are three things you can do:

  1. Forgive Yourself: Overeating may be bad for your body, but it’s not a crime. You are human and guilt and remorse will have no positive influence on a healthy lifestyle. Moving past the guilt is the first step in getting on a healthy track. Be kind to yourself. What would you tell your best friend who is feeling bad about overeating? Say it to yourself.
  2. Resume Clean Eating ASAP: An overeating episode will not influence your weight that much. It’s just one page out of the entire book. Problems will occur when an overeating episode leads to a whole chapter of poor choices. The sooner you get back on track, the easier it is to stay on course.
  3. Cleanse the Next Day: This does not mean skip meals, or only drink juice. This could be as simple as starting the day with some warm lemon water and ending it with a great nutritious veggie soup or bone broth. Think how you can love on your body the following day. Perhaps a yoga class or a hike!
